Rumor: Ridley, Ice Climbers and Simon Belmot to Join the Super Smash Bros Roster
There are rumors on the internet that three new additions will be joining the ranks for the upcoming Nintendo game, Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch. Said rumor claims that the classic Metroid villain Ridley, the Ice Climbers and Castlevania slayer Simon Belmont are coming to the franchise.
So are these rumours really to be believed? Well, they come from Gamefaqs user Vergeben, a ‘leaker’ who confirmed both accurate and inaccurate info when it comes to fighting games. For instance, he correctly revealed that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were coming to Injustice 2 and that Grøh would be joining Soul Calibur 6.
The Ice Climbers already appeared in the Smash series, so this reveal isn’t a big surprise. Simon Belmont is an odd addition, but he’s certainly a good fit for the Smash series with his iconic whip. Ridley is the character that a lot of people is least surprised to see here. His absence in the series has become an obsessive point of contention for hardcore fans, and with series head Masahiro Sakurai casting doubt on his inclusion in recent years, the Metroid dinosaur remains one of the most asked by players to be added to the roster.
“About Super Smash Bros.
Super Smash Bros. is a series of crossover fighting games published by Nintendo, that primarily features characters from franchises established on its systems. All five games have been directed by Masahiro Sakurai.
The gameplay objective differs from that of traditional fighters by aiming to knock opponents off the stage instead of depleting life bars. The original Super Smash Bros., released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64, had a small budget and was originally a Japan-only release, but its domestic success led to a worldwide release. The series achieved even greater success with the release of Super Smash Bros. Melee, which was released in 2001 for the GameCube and became the best-selling game on that system. A third installment, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, was released in 2008 for the Wii. Although HAL Laboratory has been the developer of the first two titles, the third game was developed through the collaboration of several companies. The fourth and fifth installments, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, were released in 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, respectively. The 3DS installment was the first series title to be released on a handheld platform.”
