According to independent sources from Hadoken.net – the ever wanting Samurai Showdown franchise might be getting a complete revival/reboot sometime in 2017. This would be absolutely fascinating news if it becomes a reality. Samurai Showdown was one of my favorite fighting games back in the old days when I was younger and always played the game with my sister and my other friends. There was just something about it, it had that magic that made the game really fun and the characters were really cool. I am looking forward to seeing this being officially announced sooner or later.
Remember that this is a rumor and must be taken with a grain of salt. However, after the events and announcements of E3 2015, anything at this point is possible and I wouldn’t be too surprised if this turns out to be true. Also, it’s worth mentioning that fighting games this generation have been really thriving. With Street Fighter 5 on the horizon it will be exciting to see some of the older franchises in the era.
Here is a bit of information from Hadoken.net regarding the rumor.
“SNK fans rejoice! We were able to confirm from two independent sources that SNK is bringing the massively successful Samurai Showdown Series back from the dead. According to our sources, SNK-Playmore, under the new parent company, has already started working on a new Samurai Shodown Game. The new game, which currently has a target release of 2017, will bring the series back to its roots, using 2D gameplay but with 3D models. An approach similar to what the Japanese company is currently doing with the upcoming The King Of Fighters XIV.”
The new Samurai Shodown game is not the only thing this highly missed franchise is getting. One of our sources has informed us that the plan is for the game release to coincide with a new anime adaptation of the series as well.”
