We have known for some time now that WayForward was working on a game based on the Rooster Teeth animated series RWBY. That being said it might be easy to forget this fact as the company also has several other games such as Advance Wars 1+2, River City Girls 2, and Bloodrayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites also in the works with similar time frames for release.
During the Rooster Teeth Expo At Home event, a digital version of the popular expo to avoid any issues Covid-19 might still pose, WayForward showed off the first look at the upcoming title. Being bookended with scenes of the team as viewers might usually expect them, the gameplay showcased is typical for what you might expect from WayForward. Which is to say, an action-packed side-scroller with anime characters. The full title was officially revealed as RWBY: Arrowfell.
All four members of the RWBY squad are present and it looks like players can switch between them on the fly. All four characters are present on the top of the screen as well for co-op play. However, it does not appear to limit you should you choose to play solo.
This game will be considered canon to the universe and will be set during Vol. 7 of the series. In an official press release, WayForward’s Voldi Way said:
It’s a massive honor to be trusted with a beloved brand like RWBY. Collaborating with the innovators at Rooster Teeth has been a blast, and we think the characters, personality, and style of RWBY are a great match for WayForward’s design sensibilities. We hope that fans are looking forward to seeing their favorite Huntresses in action as much as we’re looking forward to bringing the game to them.
The trailer states that the game will release at some point in 2022. It does not state what systems we can expect it for. WayForward will be developing and handling the game in the west while Arc System Works will be publishing the game in Japan.
