S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Running On Unreal Engine 5

The long-awaited S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is finally almost here, boasting a long and in-depth story as well as awesome gunplay. While gamers will have to wait till April of next year to actually step foot into the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, recently the company confirmed that the Unreal Engine 5 will be powering the game.

In response to a tweet by the official Unreal Engine Twitter account touting 80 games so far being showcased on the engine, the official account for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. got in to tout that they too are using the engine. Since might not come as a shock to many as they had already stated that the game was being built specifically for the next generation of consoles, and it was previously stated to be an Unreal Engine 4 game.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.  stands for Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, and Robbers. This is, in the game’s world, what makes up the brunt of people that travel into this alternate reality version of Chernobyl, which is referred to in-game simply as The Zone.

To say that the game had a rocky road to this point is an understatement. Intended to release about 10 years ago, massive lay-offs at GSC caused multiple delays. After that, the game was ultimately canceled with multiple developers it working on another project inspired by it after creating their own studio. Then GSC created a new studio to develop it which brings us to now.

The game is a timed exclusive for the Xbox Series X|S and PC. It is a console game pass exclusive, meaning that it will not be coming to the game pass on PC. According to unsealed documents from Epic’s legal case against Apple, the timed exclusivity is for 3 months, after which it is on the developers to decide if and when they want to port it to other consoles.
