Samsung and xCloud Partnership Announced

Samsung yesterday launched it’s new line of smartphones, the Korean manufacturer also talked about the partnership with Microsoft. The new Galaxy S20 smartphones will come with xCloud pre-installed. Talking to The Verge, Microsoft explains that collaboration is meant to deliver “high-quality game streaming to players.”

David S. Park head of Samsung’s Marketing says that the collaboration between Samsung and Microsoft is just starting.

“Both Samsung and Xbox share a vision for bringing great gaming experiences to mobile players around the world. With our 5G-enabled portfolios and Microsoft’s rich history in gaming, we are working closely together to create a premium cloud-based game streaming experience. You’ll hear more about it later this year.”

Kareem Choudhry, Project xCloud said “Having partners join us on our journey to delivering high-quality game streaming to players is of the utmost importance”

“We’ve seen positive feedback from Project xCloud preview participants testing a range of Galaxy devices, and it will only get better as we continue to work closely with Samsung on refining the experience. It’s an exciting time to be working on Project xCloud, and we can’t wait to share more about our work with Samsung later this year.”this year.”

Project xCloud is a streaming service currently in the works at Xbox Game Studios, the idea is to give subscribers the ability to play their favorite Xbox games on the go. xCloud is planned to work on phones, tables and other mobile devices. The project was announced at 2018, but the details were revealed at  Game Developers Conference 2019.

Project xCloud is Microsoft’s bet to reach their final goal, deliver Xbox to the 2.8 billion gamers in the world, Xbox’s boss Phil Spencer recently suggested that the console market might not be as important to Microsoft as is streaming services, Spencer thinks that Nintendo and Sony don’t represent a threat to their ambitions.

VentureBeat recently sat down with Microsoft’s Game Stack chief James Gwertzman, he shares what Phil Spencer communicates to the team of executives at Xbox.

“It is schizophrenic. Phil says, over and over again, that we in the gaming division need to find a way to reach the 2.8 billion gamers in the world that we believe there are. That’s a number that you hear over and over again in internal meetings. 2.8 billions gamers in the world, and we need to reach them all.

We acknowledge that we will never reach more than 100 million of them by selling them an Xbox. The only way to reach the remaining 2.7 billion is something else, whether it’s xCloud or things like Playfab, where we’re not reaching them directly, but we’re providing technologies to help reach them. Or Azure, or something.”
