The classic weapons fighter reboot of Samurai Shodown is heading over to consoles and PC later this year with the Japanese release date recently revealed by SNK. Along with the dates announcement also came the reveal of the three new characters joining the line up.
The game is set to arrive in Japan on June 27 for the Xbox One and PS4, while PC and Switch owners will have to wait for the game to release this coming winter. There is also an arcade port of the game set to launch in Japan this summer. The North American release is supposedly ready for a June release as well, but no specific date has yet been announced.
Check out the new character trailer below:
With a character of roster of 16 fighters, three of those are new to the series. Earlier in the week, we were introduced to Darli Dagger, a tough a snails female fighter raised by pirates and carpenters. The second is Wu-Ruixiang, descendant of the Feng Shui Clan, she is incredibly wise but equally clumsy and travels under the command of the Emperor.
The third and final new character goes by the name of Yashamura Kurama. This samurai warrior has a vendetta towards the Shogunate after his father’s unlawful execution and will stop at nothing to seek his vengeance.
With thirteen returning characters to fill out the rest of the cast, Samurai Shodown looks like a stunning classic fighter brought up to a modern pace. Stay tuned for an official release date for the west as we near the launch of the title.
SNK is also releasing a Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection later this year and set to release this coming Fall for the PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
