Sea of Thieves Will Be a “Key Test” For Other Xbox Games Going Multiplatform

According to a recent post by The Verge, Microsoft is treating Sea of Thieves’ upcoming PlayStation 5 release as a “key test”, to gauge how other first party games will perform on other platforms. Additionally, according to sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans, the company will continue evaluating other titles coming to PlayStation 5. Developer Rare recently confirmed that the upcoming PlayStation 5 closed beta for Sea of Thieves will begin on April 12 and will end on April 15. The closed beta will be for Premium and Deluxe Edition owners. Additionally, multiplayer is restricted to only PlayStation 5 members and trophies will be locked until the full game launches.  Sea of Thieves is available now for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. It will also be coming to PlayStation 5 on April 30,  and is available to wishlist now.

The game’s details via the publisher:

Sea of Thieves offers the essential pirate experience, from sailing and fighting to exploring and looting—everything you need to live the pirate life and become a legend in your own right. With no set roles, you have complete freedom to approach the world, and other players, however you choose.

Whether you’re voyaging as a group or sailing solo, you’re bound to encounter other crews in this shared world adventure—but will they be friends or foes, and how will you respond?
