SEGA’s Yosuke Okunari, Creative Producer and Marketing Head of the company during the SEGA Saturn’s era, has teased that after the success of the recent SEGA Mini line-up of consoles, the company might choose a the Dreamcast as the next console.
“I think for the next one, we may go with a concept close to the Genesis mini. If I have to say some names, it could be an SG-1000 Mini or a Dreamcast Mini.”
In June SEGA revealed the Game Gear Micro
in Japan, the small portable is part of the celebration of the company’s 60th anniversary. Game Gear Micro is a very small version of the original Game Gear and will come with four pre-installed games.
Game Gear Micro has been a hit in Japan, however, the release of Dreamcast Mini might require way more horsepower to emulate a console that was designed for the sixth generation of consoles. While it may not be the glorious return to video games console design, fans should around the world be glad to see a return to what led SEGA to be a giant in the industry in the early 90.
Many Dreamcast games were so impressive when launched that its graphics still look relevant two decades after launch. Check out this video, courtesy of Games Radar:
