It was announced by SEGA, that they are giving their classic games library, from the Master System to the Dreamcast, a new home with Sega Forever, a mobile service for iOS and Android that makes almost every Sega game available for free.
Check out the launch trailer of SEGA Forever, showcasing the apps’ features:
The ad-supported program is available now, making several beloved Sega titles available to download for free. The first round’s got a diverse lineup of Mega Drive and Genesis games: Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Phantasy Star 2, Kid Chameleon and Comix Zone make up the inaugural set.
All the games found in the app, are a mix of ports and emulations of the original titles that have offline play, controller support leaderboards and cloud saves. The big caveat is that every Sega Forever title has ads — such is the nature of free-to-play games, after all.
If you don’t want to see the ads, players can spend $1.99 to get the no-ads experience. (Sonic the Hedgehog is still showing as a $2.99 purchase, however, since it’s the same version that’s been available on the App Store and Google Play for several years.) All Sega Forever games will be available at this price, the publisher said, and that includes those coming to the program in the future.
Sega is planning to release more titles at a biweekly cadence. Which of the SEGA’s classic games you want to see in the app?
