Shadow of the Tomb Raider
took home the Gold at the 2019 Clio Awards after Square Enix published the “Shadow of the Cute Raider” trailer.
The trailer is a “re-creation of the Shadow of the Tomb Raider End of the Beginning trailer.” Shadow of the Cute Raider celebrates National Dog Day and was created by Square Enix in partnership with Barkley. Rather than the famed Lara navigating rundown ruins or breathing jungles while battling hostile foes, wildlife, and treacherous terrain, Shadow of the Cute Raider depicts a “determined dog [who] must master the deadly jungle, defeat villainous cats, and race to save the world from a Maya apocalypse.”
“The Clio Awards is an annual award program that recognizes innovation and creative excellence in advertising, design, and communication, judged by an international panel of advertising professionals.”
In addition, Square Enix recently released Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, which contains the base game and all seven post-launch DLC. This edition of the game gives players access to the final chapter of Lara Croft’s origin story alongside every challenge tomb, downloadable weapon, outfit, and skill. “Lara must master a deadly jungle, overcome terrifying tombs, and persevere through her darkest hour. As she races to save the world from a Maya apocalypse, Lara will ultimately be forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be.”
The Tomb Raider franchise began in 1996 when the first game was released for PC, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn. The franchise has sold over 74 million copies worldwide and has a number of feature films that began with Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of Lara Croft. Alicia Vikander donned the role in the 2013 film reboot.
