Shadowlands Season 4 Makes All Three Raids Relevant

Blizzard

community manager Kaivax has outlined Blizzard’s plan for Shadowlands Season 4, and it will include some things that many WoW players have been requesting for some time.

The blue post first details the plans for PvP in Shadowlands Season 4, which is pretty much standard faire: Higher level PvP gear, new mounts and new titles, the highest of which will be called Eternal Gladiator, “a fitting capstone for your Shadowlands PvP accomplishments.” However, it’s the next part of the post that is perhaps the most interesting.

Blizzard plans to update the Mythic+ dungeon pool with 8 different dungeons that span the last four WoW expansions. These dungeons will of course be updated with loot of current item level for Shadowlands. The blue post lists 6 different dungeons that have been confirmed for the new Mythic+ rotation, and are holding a poll to let players vote on which two dungeons will join the list:

We’re excited to announce that we’re going to shake things up in Mythic+ and raiding in Season 4. We’d like to change up the Mythic+ dungeon pool so that it would include 8 dungeons that span the last four expansions of WoW:

  • Tazavesh: Streets of Wonder
  • Tazavesh: So’leah’s Gambit
  • Operation Mechagon: Junkyard
  • Operation Mechagon: Workshop
  • Return to Karazhan: Lower
  • Return to Karazhan: Upper
  • And two dungeons from Warlords of Draenor

To that end, we’ve started a community poll where you’ll help us decide which two Draenor dungeons are included in the Season 4 Mythic+ rotation. You can click here to vote to select two dungeons from among: Auchindoun, Bloodmaul Slag Mines, Everbloom, Grimrail Depot, Shadowmoon Burial Grounds, Skyreach, and Upper Blackrock Spire.

The changes don’t stop there, however. Blizzard also plans to change up Season 4 raiding by adding affixes and higher difficulty into all current Shadowlands raids. The intention is to make all Shadowlands raids relevant for Season 4, both in difficulty and with more powerful loot:

For Season 4 raiding, we’re imagining adding a progenitor-themed affix system to infuse some new mechanical twists into Castle Nathria, Sanctum of Domination, and Sepulcher of the First Ones. Our intention here would be to make all three raids relevant in Season 4, with increased difficulty and more powerful levels of raid loot dropping throughout all of them.

This is a step in the right direction for WoW, whose endgame has been criticized for quickly making old content completely obselete as new content is released. Kaivax did not give a specific date of when Season 4 will drop, only that it will happen “later this year, after the current season has run for a typical duration.”
