It was announced by WayForward, the studio behind the Shantae series, The Mummy Demastered, a tie-in to Universal’s monster movie reboot.
The Mummy Demastered is being made in direct partnership with Universal, according to WayForward on Twitter, and will be coming to unspecified consoles and PC. Alongside the announcement, the developer released a single screenshot, which shows off the game’s “demastered” graphics and side-scrolling gameplay:
While Wayforward didn’t specified the consoles in which the game would be released, Universal Studio sent out an all new press release, that contains the following overview of the game:
“The Mummy Demastered is a platforming adventure game based on The Mummy. Launching in late August 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam, players will enter a world of evil as an elite Prodigium agent who is tasked to take down Princess Ahmanet’s army of the undead and save the world at any cost. Players will explore dark forests, maze-like military compounds and the sandstorm-filled streets of London in this retro-inspired adventure.”
This isn’t the first movie-based game WayForward has worked on. In 2015, the developer released Goosebumps: The Game shortly before Sony’s Goosebumps movie hit theaters.
While Universal Studio stated that the game will be releasing on August 2017, the Mummy movie (2017) will hit theaters tomorrow, June 9.
