Shenmue 4 Will Aim A Larger Audience Says Creator

According to Yu Suzuki, the fourth installment of Shenmue will be produced for a much larger audience. Suzuki claims that Shenmue 3 was made “for the fans”.

“If I have the opportunity to make Shenmue 4—and I think I will—I know how to satisfy casual users, so I want to make a game that everyone can be satisfied with,” stated the director. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to work on new things. But of course, I want to continue towards the end of the Shenmue story, and as long as there is fan demand, I will continue to make it, as I’ve said before.”

Reports from VideoGamer reveals that Shenmue 3 sold very well on PC and PlayStation, the publisher admitted that the game was not a “mass market product”. Suzuki often shares that the game was possible thanks to the “love, support” from fans. Now, the developers face the challenge of innovate a new gameplay and perhaps a new way of narrate the plot of the fourth release of the acclaimed saga.

“For as long as there are those who wish to see Shenmue live on, I will never give up on my own personal journey to complete its story,” Suzuki said. “I sincerely hope that, together, we can continue to spin the tale of Ryo and his adventures in Shenmue 4.” The lionised game designer had mentioned that Shenmue 4 would be dependent on the commercial success of Shenmue 3, and would “rely more on what kind of partners we will be able to secure.”

After eighteen years of waiting

, fans finally had a new Shenmue game, the game follows the same formula that led its predecessors to become cult classics, action-adventure, single player mode. Shenmue III is available for PC and PlayStation 4. The game was developed by YS Net, Neilo, and YSNET inc., and published by Deep Silver and Shibuya Productions.
