Shenmue III’s Producer and Writer Yu Suzuki recently shared lot of details about story of the game and he revealed that Ryo hasn’t changed a bit, but he will be visiting a foreign country and his relation with some villagers will be crucial for the protagonist development in the game.
Since only a month or two has passed since Shenmue II, there haven’t been any drastic changes to Ryo’s character. But visiting this foreign country and interacting with the villagers of Bailu will contribute to his growth. With his pathos and distinctive personality, good old Ryo, the most oblivious man in the world, is still the same as ever.
Shenhua was raised in the countryside, surrounded by nature and the freedom that provides, while Ryo is the exact opposite, having been raised in the city. I really hope that players will be able to enjoy the funny and interesting conversations and viewpoints rising from the differences in values and environment between the two characters.
The more you speak with Shenhua, the closer your relationship grows, and the more her attitude and expressions change. I hope to be able to express the small, subtle changes in everyday life and interactions.
Shenmue III is releasing on August 27th for the PC and PS4 it follows a very successful Kickstarter campaign where to goal set to start the development was $2 million. Game’s producer Yu Suzuki said that for Shenmue III to be a “true” open-world game, the campaign would need to raise at least $10 million. Well fans loved the idea as the Kickstarter campaign raised $1 million in less than two hours, making Shenmue III the fastest game to raise that amount through crowdfunding.
Crowdfunding ended in late 2018, having raised $7,179,510 from 81,087 backers across multiple platforms. With Sony and Deep Silver offering large sums of money to help the development of Shenmue III.
