Developer and publisher Atlus has now officially confirmed Shin Megami Tensei V for the Nintendo Switch. The game will be an exclusive title for the system, although Atlus didn’t confirmed a release date.
The game is being developed with Unreal Engine 4. Shin Megami Tensei V was first announced during the Nintendo Switch unveiling event last January, the trailer back then was pretty vague, but it did feature a bunch of cool demons for the player to supposedly collect.
The game is set in modern day Tokyo. The teaser trailer shows two uniform-wearing high school students walking inside a train station. Then, the corpses of demons in the city’s tunnels. After that, the students are surrounded by demons in a desertified Tokyo. The mysterious words “Shekinah Glory” and “Daath” appear on the screen.
Check out the Shin Megami Tensei V cinematic trailer down below:
“While Shin Megami Tensei IV took place in an alternate reality world, SMT 5 looks to return to the modern-day Tokyo environment of Shin Megami Tensei and Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. Of course, it’s not SMT without a demon-filled apocalypse, and the trailer shows exactly that kind of thing happening. A young boy and girl are killed—and possibly awakened—by a pack of flying demons. The weird rose petal theme shown in the first trailer appears again here, when the girl is killed.
Unfortunately, while this trailer gives us some idea of the setting, it doesn’t offer much in the way of details. All we know is Shin Megami Tensei is still coming as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and the title will be the next mainline release in the series, not a spin-off.”
