Silent Hill To be Rebooted – Rumor

AestheticGamer

recognized for revealing some information of Resident Evil 8, recently talked about the latest information from Konami regarding Silent Hill.

According to the leaker, Konami has decided to “soft reboot” the franchise, and will hire some studios to take the responsibility to create two new Silent Hill titles. If his information is to be credible, Konami will release a Silent Hill game that will go through the main story, and another game will release shortly after, the second game will follow an episodic release.

AestheticGamer has some doubts of whether Konami will give the appropriate budget for the project to be successful. He also suggest that the new games might be releasing as soon as this year.

The last Silent Hill project was under Kojima and Guillermo del Toro’s creative direction. The P.T. demo proved to fill even the most hardcore fan’s expectation.  It seemed that after some disappointing releases, the franchise would finally return to it’s origins. The game turned to be cancelled due Konami having problems with Hideo Kojima.

Silent Hill is known for it’s psychological terror, the game doesn’t need jump scares, or nasty looking monsters to deliver terror. Often the trick is done by it’s unsettling scenery mixed with a background “music” that will instantly produce anxiety after few minutes of gameplay. What is most anguishing is the fact that the Silent Hill protagonist are normal human beings, usually a guy or teenager with no experience on how to shoot a gun. This is translated in how the character feel sluggish, vulnerable and weak.

After Silent Hill 3 released, the following games in the franchise took a more third-person action-shooter approach. Similar to what Capcom did with Resident Evil 5. That changed the beloved terror game, to a more action horror game.

Silent Hill has always be the Konami’s answer to Resident Evil, and the current resurgence of the genre thanks to Resident Evil 2 Remake and the upcoming Resident Evil 3 Remake might give some credibility to this rumor. If only Konami don’t cancel the game this time.
