Developed by Reverge Labs, Skullgirls is a fast-paced 2D fighting game who originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360. Starring a cast of feisty female warriors, Skullgirls is a multi-layered fighter featuring all-new game systems for veteran fighting game fans while also making the intimidating genre enjoyable and accessible to the casual gamer.
Set in the Canopy Kingdom, Skullgirls tells the tale of eight female warriors as they fight to reclaim a wish-granting artifact known as the “Skull Heart” from the monstrous Skullgirl. As legend has it, every seven years this enigmatic Skull Heart grants a wish to a young woman… but this power can come at a terrible price. If her heart is impure, her wish will be twisted and she herself will be transformed into a Skullgirl.
Skullgirls is the brainchild of Creative Director Alex “o_8” Ahad and Lead Developer Mike “Mike Z” Zaimont. Ahad’s unique and vivid artwork has been featured in Lava Punch, UDON’s Tribute books and Scott Pilgrim.
Under his tutelage, each of these memorable fighting females is brought to life with a fluid and high-resolution 2D animation rarely seen in a fighting game. None of this would be possible without Mike Z., a fighting game champion and programmer whose genre expertise permeates the game. From designing Skullgirls’ gameplay to creating the game’s remarkable hybrid 2D/3D engine, Mike’s contributions ensure that Skullgirls is tournament-worthy, beautiful, and, most of all, fun.
