Xbox’s Smart Delivery Might Only Work With First-Party Games

As reported by Video Games Chronicle Xbox is encouraging developers and publishers to join the Smart Delivery technique for Xbox Series X, this means to offer free upgrades of Xbox One games for Series X or Series S. This confirm that, similar to PlayStation 5, not all current gen games will be playable for free on next gen devices.

Since the Xbox Series X reveal, Microsoft has pushed Smart Deliver as one of the best features of the console, the technology would “empower” users to have the right version of the game for the console at hand. However, as more time pass, Xbox fans are noticing that not many developers would skip the opportunity to sell the game once again to the player. As suggested by Sony, some games needs some fixes and patches for next-gen hardware, that means development time and money.

“At Xbox, the player is at the center of everything we do, which is why we’re committed to supporting exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles, including ’Halo Infinite,’ with Smart Delivery, providing the best available version for whichever console you choose to play on.

“However, developers and publishers ultimately decide how they deliver their games, and we work with them to provide the best possible experience based on their needs.”

Last month, Xbox shared more details about Smart Delivery, the comapany seems confident to claim that “thousands of games”will be available thanks to the console’s backwards compatibility with all the previous Xbox consoles.

Below is the list of confirmed games featured on Smart Delivery:

Halo Infinite
Cyberpunk 2077
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Destiny 2
DiRT 5
Scarlet Nexus
Chorus
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
The Ascent
Call of the Sea
Gears 5
Second Extinction
Metal: Hellslinger
