The Sonic the Hedgehog social media team has just unearthed a long lost infomercial for the upcoming Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition! Created as an homage to the classic Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ad, the Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition ad shows off the bonus items found inside the Spring 2017 release including the statue of Sonic standing on a Genesis/Mega Drive, the metallic game code card and the game cartridge that contains a gold ring.
What better way to sell a retro package like that than with an infomercial that looks like it’s ripped straight out of 90’s? It’s cheesy in all the right ways, and may even feature a cameo from the brains behind Sonic’s incredible Twitter account. Sonic Mania is expected to launch next spring on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC
Check out the Trailer:
“It’s stunts like these that perfectly show how Sonic is slowly but surely reclaiming some of his former glory. Back in 1993, Sega and Sonic were synonymous with attitude, with provocative advertisements and an all around more “edgy” feel than that of their main competitor at the time, Nintendo. Flash-forward to 2016, and Sonic’s games are the worst they’ve ever been, and Sega doesn’t even make consoles anymore. It may have taken a long, lone time, but Sonic and Sega once again seem to be channeling that signature brand of attitude that made the blue blur a household name back in the day.”
