Sony has acknowledged the PS5 pre-order issue, an official statement affirms that more units will be available through the end of the year.
“Let’s be honest: PS5 preorders could have been a lot smoother. We truly apologize for that,” …”Over the next few days, we will release more PS5 consoles for preorder – retailers will share more details. And more PS5s will be available through the end of the year.”
Earlier this week, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that PlayStation 5, will be available on November 12, pre-orders were scheduled to launch on Thursday, however, several retailers decided to open the pre-orders after the PlayStation Showcase.
Even if the retailers’action is not directly linked to a decision from Sony, it’s important to mention that the company promised to announce with plenty of anticipation the start of pre-orders.
Sony is reportedly using air freight to prevent delays, insiders affirms that the company has booked 60 Delta planes to provide faster shipping of PS5 consoles. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO Jim Ryan promised that there will be more stock of next-gen consoles at launch than there were for the PS4.
Interestingly, Sony has denied reports from Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki who affirmed that that yields for the PS5’s SoC have been as low as 50%, creating a bottleneck in the manufacturing process of the next-gen console.
“While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false,” PlayStation told Games Industry.

Sony’s problems became evident after Xbox reveal it’s entry-level Xbox Series S, a console capable of playing next-gen games at 1440p for 299.99 USD. According to insiders, the PlayStation 5 was “considerably” more expensive before knowing the price of Series S and Series X.
Certainly, all information from unofficial sources should be taken with a grain of salt, however, the PlayStation’s statement seems to indicate that it might be tough to find a PS5 on the launch window.
