has announced that Valkerie Entertainment will be joining the PlayStation Studios Family, adding to the list of studios that the company has acquired this year. Valkerie Entertainment is a Seattle-based studio that is perhaps best known for developing helping Co-Developing, and assisting big-name developers on projects ranging from God of War, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2, and even Halo Infinite. The studio is currently poised to also aid in the development of God of War: Ragnarok, set to release in 2022.

In a press release, PlayStation Studio head Hermen Hulst stated:
Valkyrie Entertainment is a highly adaptable and respected studio which has produced high-quality work on a range of platforms from console to PC; and a variety of styles from action to games-as-a-service titles. Valkyrie’s diverse capabilities will be welcomed by every team at PlayStation Studios as we continue to focus on delivering extraordinary gaming experiences.
This year has seen Sony actively acquiring studios, some of which they have worked with for a lengthy time. Housemarque, developers of Returnal was purchased shortly after the PlayStation 5 exclusive was released. They also aquired remake studio Bluepoint Games, which released the PlayStation 5 launch title remake of Demon Souls to large acclaim. Sony also acquired the developer behind The Playroom, Firesprite Games.
Not all acquisitions have been purely focused on developers in the traditional sense. Sony also acquired Nixxes, a Dutch-based studio that specializes in porting PC titles. Since the company has stated they plan a bigger commitment to the PC platform in the future, this purchase was very likely to aid in that regard.
Valkyrie Entertainment could have multiple applications when it comes to PlayStations’ first-party lineup. They are a great development studio that can aid in several upcoming projects that the company has in the works, which might make meeting certain deadlines more feasible. Several studios such as Bluepoint and Firesprite also have new AAA IPs in the works, which is not the wheelhouse these companies might have been known for before acquisition. It is possible that we might see a new IP in Valkyries future as well.
