Earlier this week, several fans noticed that the announcement trailer and PlayStation announcement tweet for the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake had been made private and deleted respectively. This prompted concerns and rumors that the upcoming game is being canceled, especially with recent news about restructuring at Aspyr parent company Embracer Group. However, now Sony has released a statement regarding the posts being taken down, claiming that the issue was due to the license expiration of the music used in the trailer. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced back in September 2021 during a PlayStation Showcase event. The title was announced as a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive. However, it was also reported that the game had been delayed indefinitely. A spokesperson at the company made a public statement, via journalist Stephen Totilo, saying:“As part of normal business, we delist assets with licensed music when the licenses expire.”
The game’s first details revealed during its initial announcement can be seen below:
A pinnacle of Star Wars Legends storytelling, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is set over 4,000 years before the events of the original trilogy and introduced a new story of new heroes and villains in an epic struggle for the fate of the galaxy. The team here at Aspyr and Sony Interactive Entertainment have joined forces with Lucasfilm Games to bring you a remake of this classic Star Wars adventure. We’re rebuilding one of the greatest RPGs of all time for a new generation with modern tech, features, visuals and more, while maintaining the integrity of the story and characters that we’ve come to cherish.
And it’s a console exclusive on PlayStation 5 at launch.
