Sony Could Bring More Exclusives to PC

According to the latest report from Sony is now confirmed that Sony Interactive Entertainment is “exploring” the benefits, or possibilities to send some of PlayStation Studios games on PC via Steam. This new statement from Sony also points to the company’s need to reach more active users on the PlayStation Network but also acknowledges the need for growth in the PlayStation brand.

“We will explore expanding our first-party titles to the PC platform, in order to promote further growth in our profitability,”

Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, Detroit: Become Human, and  Final Fantasy VII: Remake is some of the PlayStation titles that made the jump to PC. However, those games did not release from day one on the PC. PlayStation retains a one-year exclusive deal with Final Fantasy VII: Remake, such as the deal made with Kojima Productions for Death Stranding.

This decision might not be welcomed with open arms by the hardcore PlayStation fans, but the Japanese tech giant has been making smart moves, such as establishing the PlayStation Studios brand and send a few of their titles to Steam to try to expand PlayStation Network’s community.

As reported by VGC, the head of SIE Herman Hults has suggested on the PlayStation Blog in March that PC ports of PlayStation exclusives would remain an exception.

“And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC,” he said.

“In my mind, Horizon Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance. We don’t have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware.”
