During an interview with Bloomberg, Sony’s own Shawn Layden expressed some interesting future possibilities regarding Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) first-party titles heading over to other platforms outside of the Playstation brand.
“We must support the PlayStation platform—that is nonnegotiable,” expressed Layden. “That said, you will see in the future some titles coming out of my collection of studios which may need to lean into a wider installed base.” It’s an interesting bit of information dropped by Layden, who took over as President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment of America back in 2014.
Currently, the Sony PlayStation houses a vast collection of exclusive first-party titles, including Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man. However, it appears that Shawn Layden was talking more directly in the vein of multiplayer titles, of which Sony has very little.
In other news, Sony has just acquired Marvel’s Spider-Man’s developer Insomniac Games who is now apart of the robust circle of SIE worldwide studios.
While Shawn Layden has yet to elaborate on what lies ahead for future PlayStation exclusives, we’ll be sure to update you once more details surface.
