PlayStation has done very well over the last generation when it comes to fighting games. They produced the latest Street Fighter, which had a rocky start but has since found its footing. Not only that, they have had a very good relationship with Arc System Works, developers of Guilty Gear and Blazblue. According to a new rumor that relationship may soon go a step farther.

Dealer Gaming, a leaker with a solid track record, claims now that Sony is in talks with Arc System Works about potentially buying the company and making it part of the PlayStation family. This would not be an odd choice of the developer to buy as both their biggest franchises are already PlayStation exclusives.
I’ve already hinted at the Ghost Of Tsushima Expansion coming. Details leaked shortly after.
Today it’s all about Sony Studio acquisitions…

Another reason this rumor might fit is the recent acquisition of the Evo (Evolution Championship Series) on the part of Sony. The competition is the largest fighting game tournament in the world, having a strong roster of fighting games under their belt.
Recently Sony made their first push into expanding the EVO Tournament was recently announced. Called the Evo Community Series, these public tournaments will feature several games from Arc including their most recent, Guilty Gear Strive. Other titles from the company to be featured include BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r].
The studio has had a strong presence at EVO in the past as well, though is usually overshadowed in the west by familiar franchises like Tekken and Street Fighter. Arc System Works however still manages to maintain decent popularity in both the east and west, owing to their well-crafted fighting mechanics.
This is all just speculation at this point, however, this rumor does seem extremely plausible. Only time will tell if this purchase comes to fruition.
