Daniel Ahmad, an Analyst at Niko Partners, has just suggested that Sony will announce today that they won’t be attending at E3 2020. Ahmad, told the news in a response to a Jason Scrierer’s tweet where he shared his opinion on the E3’s current condition.
“E3 is in the worst shape it’s ever been — last year it was half-empty, and that was before they doxed thousands of attending journalists — so Sony skipping again would make total sense. I’d expect them to announce their own big PS5 event(s) instead.” Jason Scrierer News editor at Kotaku
“Should hear more about this today.” Daniel Ahmad. Senior Analyst at Niko Partners
Once the place where big companies revealed and announced their best products, last year it surely didn’t feel the same without Sony’s presence.
“There were empty seats at every nearby restaurant, the halls were less crowded than they’ve ever been, and anyone who had been to multiple E3s was talking about how quiet it felt“… Jason Scrierer.
Yesterday, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter told VGC he’s skeptical about Sony returning to E3.
“As far as I know, they don’t plan to attend,” he said. “I think that’s a huge mistake, as their ‘focus on the consumer’ is not inconsistent with their attendance at the premier industry trade show. I hope they change their minds, but am skeptical.”
also reports that Microsoft is ready to take advantage of Sony’s decision. Speculation grows as we’re close to February, a month that is very important for PlayStation, back in February 20,2013 Sony hosted a PlayStation Meeting at New York City. The purpose of the event was to cover the “Future of PlayStation”, Sony officially announced the PlayStation 4 on that day.
UPDATE, 8:30PM
It’s confirmed, Sony won’t attend this year’s E3. Sony after some deliberation has decided that they will rather host “hundred” of events for consumers around the world. Sony Interactive Entertainment will celebrate a year full of releases and the launch of their next gen system close to his fans.
A SIE representative has contacted GameIndustry.biz and share the vision of Sony:
“After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020,”…”We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.
“We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”
