According to the latest rumors, Sony is planning to acquire Kojima Productions. Youtuber HipHopGaming says that Sony is trying to include Kojima’s next horror game in the acquisition of the studio. The information comes from a dubious source, but considering how Sony received Kojima after being sacked at Konami this rumor might actually be true.
It’s also worth mentioning that Kojima’s horror game is also a rumor, what’s confirmed is the director’s eagerness to create a horror game after having his Silent Hill’s cancelled.
“I want to do a horror game one day, yes of course. I have some new ideas that I think kind of get out there. But I don’t know when. I’ll have to think about when I bring this out,” October 2019, Hideo Kojima.
Hideo Kojima has been very active since the release of Death Stranding, in late December he teased that he was already working for the concept of his next big project. Earlier this week he further reveals what are Kojima Productions’ plans for their next games.
According to alt/char the legendary director would also be interested in releasing weirder games than Death Stranding, he is interested in smaller, digital-only releases. The development team would also work on a big release.
Kojima has also stated that he wants Kojima Productions to do more than videogames, perhaps Sony could also be interested in a partner that could be tasked with the future of videogames and streaming.
“In the future Kojima Productions will start making films,” Kojima said at the time. “If you can do one thing well, then you can do everything well.”
“I think within the next few years, gaming will move on to streaming,” he added. “Movies, dramas and games will all be streamed, and you’ll enjoy them on your iPad or iPhone or a screen anytime, anywhere. When that happens, games, films and dramas will have to compete in the same space. I’m very interested in the new format of gaming that will appear on there, and that’s what I want to take on.”
