According to a recent report from CNBC, analysts believe Sony will likely release a Pro version of the PlayStation 5 console sometime this year. The analysts claim that “the company cut its forecast for sales of its flagship console.” They claim the move was made to “boost interest in the PlayStation 5 and offer a souped-up piece of hardware ready for release of Grand Theft Auto VI in 2025.” Whether or not these claims turn out to be true is yet to be seen. However, back in December, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb claimed on a podcast episode on his YouTube channel that Sony is currently working on a PlayStation 5 console upgrade. It will “probably” come out in September 2024. Grubb also stated that it will feature “Sony’s own proprietary DLSS-like solution, where they use their own machine learning to improve images so they can run things at a really high resolution and really high frame rate.” Earlier in July 2023, legal documents from the Microsoft FTC court case revealed that Sony will release a PlayStation 5 Slim and a PlayStation 5 Pro console “in the near future.” The PlayStation 5 Slim console was released in 2023.The full quote from Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based games consultancy Kantan Games via CNBC:“There seems to be a broad consensus in the game industry that Sony is indeed preparing a launch of a PS5 Pro in the second half of 2024. And Sony will want to make sure to have a great piece of hardware ready when GTA VI hits in 2025, a launch that will be a shot in the arm for the entire gaming industry.”
