Today, Bandai Namco Entertainment announced that the fan-favorite armored knight, Siegfried, is confirmed to be joining the roster of fighters in the upcoming fighting game Soulcalibur VI. Siegfried Schtauffen returns after being vanquished in battle by Kilik and his allies while in the form of his cursed counterpart Nightmare, who is also in the roster of fighters for the game.

About siegfried
Siegfried is a knight who sallies into battle with a comically-oversized zweihander, a German two-handed sword. He has featured as the protagonist in some of the games and a background character in other titles. Notably, a corrupted version of the character known as Nightmare served as the primary antagonist for the first two games in the Soulcalibur series. Nightmare later split off into its own separate entity, distinguishing itself from its host by carrying its sword in the left hand as opposed to the right hand as Siegfried does.
A press release from Bandai Namco Entertainment America has some additional details on his background story for the sixth core installment of this franchise. In Soulcalibur VI, Siegfried awakens to find himself freed from the influence of Soul Edge, the demonic sword that corrupts the minds of men and seeks to feed its neverending bloodlust. Soul Edge can only be countered by Soul Calibur, the magical sword specifically created to counter its dark magic. After falling in combat as Nightmare to Kilik and his comrades, Siegfried is haunted by memories of murdering his father and the atrocities he committed as Nightmare. He now seeks to redeem himself in the neverending tale of souls and swords.
The latest confirmed addition to the game’s cast is in fine company; The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia is one of the characters from outside the universe that will be playable in the game. SoulCalibur VI is set to release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and (in a first for the series) PC sometime in 2018.
