With every new Soul Calibur VI trailer, a new character is revealed, and today’s trailer showcases the fan-favorite character Maxi. He seems to be as formidable as ever with his fighting style, Shissen Karihadi, being both quick and dangerous when facing off against his opponent in an up-close melee. With his trusty nunchaku in hand, Maxi makes for a formidable fighter.
In the video, Maxi knocks a number of other characters around with Fatibal, the name of his nunchucks. The nunchucks have a distinctive green trail following them as Maxi speedily swings them around his enemies. Using his Shissen-Karihadi fighting style, Maxi is seen in the trailer jumping off the backs of others to perform powerful combos and hitting another character with a powerful, fiery punch.
Maxi is a staple character of the Soulcalibur franchise, having appeared in every game in the series except the 2007 Wii-exclusive action-adventure spinoff Soulcalibur Legends, which only featured seven playable characters. He looks to be retaining his fashionable white pants and open jacket in the upcoming fighting game, however.
Soulcalibur VI is planned for release sometime this year, and for the first time will be running on the Unreal Engine. The fighting game set in the 16th century is due to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Check out the Trailer:
Maxi has always been a character that was reliant on sheer speed, interrupting enemy attacks, and mixing his moves between attacks with his nunchaku and a myriad of kicks and throws to combo up his opponents. If the video above is any indication, it would appear that many of his strengths have been left intact. However, that also means occasionally leaving himself open due to his relatively short-ranged weapon and need to get close to his opponents. Players are going to have to utilize every little bit of Maxi’s speed to dizzy up their opponent and take advantage of the confusion.
It’s worth noting too that Maxi makes up the final piece of a trifecta of related Soulcalibur staple characters to have come to the game, the other two being Xianghua and Kilik who were confirmed earlier in 2018. It may have been a given that Maxi would finally make his appearance with the other two already included, but fans of the character can now rejoice at his concrete inclusion in the new game.
