Phil Spencer: Elden Ring is Miyazaki’s “Most Ambitious” Game

In an interview with Gamespot, Phil Spencer affirmed to had played “quite a bit” of Elden Ring, the Xbox boss affirms that the game it’s the most ambitious project from Hidetaka Miyazaki.

“As somebody who’s played all of Miyazaki’s games, over at least the last decade, this is clearly the most ambitious game that he’s done,” Spencer said. “I love his games, but seeing some of the gameplay mechanics stuff that he’s tackling, he and the team are tackling this time, of the setting, working with another creator in terms of story. I love it. I love to see him challenging himself.”

Spencer also suggested that the game will please From Software’s fans who like a challenge, according to the executive, Miyazaki had to leave the room while he played the game: “I think that’s because I’m a bad player, and then when he comes back we’ll have a conversation about things that I think”.

Spencer also praised the work of  Game of Thrones’ author George R. R. Martin, who is worked on the story for the upcoming open-world game. Gamespot affirms that the game will have more open-ended areas that use a series of passages and locked doors to guide players to the main story.

Announced during E3 2019 Elden Ring is being developed by From Software and will be published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game is a fantasy action-RPG adventure set within a world created by the Dark Souls creator; and George R.R. Martin, the author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire and Games of Thrones.

In the same interview, Phil Spencer also revealed that fans should not be worried by the recent departure of Halo Inifinite’s creator Tim Longo.

“I don’t have any specific concern about 343. I actually think in the long run, turnover is a healthy thing because we want people who are really motivated by the things that they’re working on.” Spencer said.

Interestingly, it was reported earlier this week that Microsoft is looking to buy some Japanese studios. Spencer’s visit to From Software might spark the rumors of a possible acquisition of the studio.
