According to the report from Kotaku UK, Spyro Trilogy Remaster sill be announced for PlayStation 4 sometime next month, The Spyro remaster will be releasing on Q3 2018, according to reports the remaster will feature new assets along with some lighting, animations, and cinematics enhancements.
It’s also reported that it will also have a remastered soundtrack, the remaster will include Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage!, and Year of the Dragon, with cut content from the games also seemingly being included into the remaster.
According to Kotaku UK, the remastered trilogy will include Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. The three games will reportedly feature all-new assets, lighting, animations, and cinematics; a remastered soundtrack; an overhaul to the originals’ save systems; and PlayStation 4 Pro support. An official announcement is expected next month.
One source with Kotaku UK told the site that the game would launch in September, which would coincide with the franchises 20th anniversary. The game will also be a one-year timed exclusive for PlayStation 4, before being ported out to other systems in 2019. While all of this is still up in the air, the thought of replaying some of the PlayStation’s oldest and most classic games is surely exciting to fans. The exclusivity deal will reportedly last one year, allowing the collection to be released on other platforms in 2019. The report also claims Sony made a similar one-year deal with Activision on the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, meaning that collection should come to other platforms later this year.
Since the series’ introduction in 1998 with the PlayStation game Spyro the Dragon, there have been numerous sequels and spin-offs. Originally owned by Universal Pictures (via the defunct Universal Interactive) and created by Insomniac Games, the franchise has changed hands and developers numerous times before the rights to the IP were finally acquired by Activision in 2008.
