Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is going to be the first narrative-focused title that comes out of Electronic Arts since Mass Effect: Andromeda. The game is being developed by Respawn Entertainment, the team that brought us Apex Legends and Titanfall series, but right now, is working on something totally different. Their debut in third-person action-adventure genre is highly anticipated, but the team is rest assured that it’s going to deliver something deserves fans’ patience; Something like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Speaking to Edge Magazine’s September issue, Stig Asmussen and Jason de Heras, game director and lead combat designer at Respawn Entertainment, talked about their inspiration sources such as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and then started explaining that how Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be like FromSoftware’s hardcore action game. At first, Asumussen said:
I’ve been a huge FromSoftware fan since King’s Field. I mean, King’s Field II is one of my favorite games ever. But it’s not about you liking a game, and trying to make that game myself. It’s more, ‘What can we learn about what’s fun about it?’
Following Stig’s words, Jason de Heras explained the creative gameplay mechanics in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which makes it to be very similar to Fallen Order. He said:
I thought it was pretty badass, and a little comforting to know that you could this type of game without a stamina bar. They let you attack, they let you roll, they let you do all this for free – and then the AI will tell you if you’re doing the correct thing. It just confirmed to us that you don’t have to limit everything the player does; let them have a little more agency, and then let the AI give them a slap on the wrist or a punch in the face. It was a positive thing for us to know there was a game that was similar to ours. Very similar.
According to what we saw in gameplay reveal for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order at E3 2019, the game didn’t seem to be as hardcore and challenging as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but it might reach such a level in higher difficulty settings.
