The team behind Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order have answered to many questions about the gameplay or story of the game so far. However, it might be a question for some fans that why Respawn Entertainment has decided to put a male character for protagonist, and why it’s not a female like the recent movies of Star Wars.
Stig Asmussen, the director behind Fallen Order, had some interesting information on the team’s challenge in selecting Cal Kestis as the main protagonist of the game. According to Asmussen, at first he wanted to have an alien as the protagonist, but the idea was left, because they thought players might engage better with a human than an alien.
In case of preferring a male human to a female one, Asmussen brought out the movie series and Rey’s appearance in there, as the main reason to have a male protagonist. He said:
We arrived at where we were because at the time [new film trilogy protagonist] Rey was kind of the thing for Star Wars, so it made a lot more sense for us to have a male protagonist.
While Cal seems to be a promising hero in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the development team probably wanted to distinguish the game from recent movies by focusing on a different type of character in most of the aspects.
