“Amongst my digging, I heard there is a Knights of the Old Republic project in development somewhere,” Bulletin said. “I talked to a couple of people, and I also found out that Jason Schreier said that it’s not with EA, and we’ll ‘never guess’ who the studio is that’s making this game.”
Rumors of a new KOTOR game went viral in early 2020 following a report by Cinelinx, the outlet affirmed that two independent sources could verify the new project was being produced as a sequel to the original game.
Insiders suggest that the game will be “integrate elements from the first two games in order to bring certain things into the current Star Wars canon”.
Disney revived Lucas Film Games in 2019, the President of Global Games, Sean Shoptaw Wired: “EA has been and will continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward, but we did feel like there’s room for others.”
This was the inevitable end to the exclusivity deal that EA had with Disney to produce Star Wars games. A new open-world game is being developed at Ubisoft as was revealed earlier this month.
President of LucasFilm, Kathleen Kennedy stated about the future of Star Wars games: “We look forward to continuing the wonderful legacy in games, which has introduced so many memorable characters and stories. These new collaborations will allow the Lucasfilm Games team to pursue fresh and exciting directions in the storytelling of Star Wars and Indiana Jones in imaginative and different ways than those explored by our films.”
The original KOTOR was a massive hit for Xbox and BioWare, the project was led by Casey Hudson and it managed to be one of the best selling games for the original Xbox.
