In today’s first edition of Sony’s State of Play stream NetherRealm revealed a new trailer for the highly anticipated bloody brawler Mortal Kombat 11. This time we got a glimpse of the “old skool” fighters and the design of the new ones.
Following the trend of using rap artist as a background music for the latest trailers, the State of Play’s trailer follows the same formula with a slight difference, this time it’s an “old skool” song from Ice Cube, Check yo self. As the trailer progresses we can hear a newer song from Vince Staples, Blue Suede.
Those who knows how Mortal Kombat was originally conceived might spot a few easter eggs, the trailer starts with Johnny Cage’s signature move from the first game. This is not an original move of Johnny Cage as it was a characteristic move of Jean-Claude Van Damme the man who inspired Ed Boon and John Tobias to develop Mortal Kombat.
In this trailer we can see some of the classic costumes that will definitely please older players

The “Past Meets Present” premise of Mortal Kombat 11 has given us an amazing chance to honor Mortal Kombat’s origins, to enjoy the game’s current moment, and to reveal the first glimpses of Mortal Kombat’s future.
Not every character meets their past or present counterpart in the game’s story mode, but those who do are in for dramatic experiences. Some characters will find reason to celebrate, while others will face the consequences of tragic choices. Throughout the story mode, these interactions will give the players more insight into the characters: they’ll better understand who they are and why they fight.
For the “past” versions of returning characters, every effort has been made to honor their roots. “Past” Johnny Cage is a prime example. He’s been ripped straight from the 1990s: His speech, his clothes, and his attitude all firmly reflect his origin as a cocky young Hollywood star.
Mortal Kombat 11 releases on April 23th, a closed beta for pre-order owners will be made available soon.
