Stellar Blade Graffiti Art Placement Referencing Racial Slur Will Be Removed

According to a recent statement to IGN, Sony plans on removing a graffiti placement, found during the review phase of the game, that seemingly unintentionally hints as racist symbolism in Stellar Blade. According to IGN, graffiti of the word “HARD” can be found in several areas in the game.  In one particular area, the word can be found next to a sign for the R shop which directs to the store owned by the character Roxanne. However, Sony notes that this imagery was unintentional and that it will be changed in the game’s day one patch. “The placement of two graphics near each other in Stellar Blade resulted in an unintentional objectionable phrase,” the statement read. “Shift Up had no intention of creating offensive artwork and will be replacing the graffiti for the Day 1 patch.”  Stellar Blade will launch on April 26 for PlayStation 5. A demo was recently released, and the game recently went gold. The demo features the game’s first stage which “include the tutorial phase to help you familiarize yourself with basic combat features as you explore post-war Eidos 7, a human city now infested by the Naytiba”.

The game’s details via the publisher:

Reclaim Earth for humankind.

After travelling from the Colony, 7th Airborne Squad member EVE arrives on the desolate remains of our planet with a clear-cut mission: to save humankind by reclaiming Earth from the Naytiba—the malevolent force that has devastated it.

But as EVE tackles the Naytiba one-by-one, piecing together the mysteries of the past in the ruins of human civilization, she realizes that her mission is far from straightforward. In fact, almost nothing is as it seems…
