announced the addition of two ‘Developer Showcase’ events on June 22 and July. The events will be produced by im8bit, and Double Fine and will feature a select group of upcoming indie and AAA video games, curated by the Day of the Devs team and Geoff Keighley.
“Independent game developers and publishers are a vital part of our industry and Summer Game Fest,” said Geoff Keighley, curator, Summer Game fest. “I am excited to team up with Day of the Devs for these showcase events that will be filled with gameplay and updates from both independent and major publishers.”
“Our goal with Day of the Devs has always been to shine a spotlight on creator-driven games, whether it’s one that’s already getting some buzz or something completely new and surprising that comes through the submission process,” said Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine Productions and co-founder of Day of the Devs.
“Each showcase will be jam-packed, from the extended gameplay previews that have become a Day of the Devs staple to some very special surprise debuts that you’ll never see coming. This is the Day of the Devs you’ve loved for the last eight years, yet crafted specifically for the digital space,” said Amanda White and Jon Gibson, co-owners of iam8bit and also co-founders of Day of the Devs.
Born due to the necessity of organizing an event, adapted to the challenges presented by COVID-19 Summer Game Fest is a large showcase of the most important companies in the gaming industry, major news and announcements, in-game events and DLC areconfirmed to arrive for players. According to Keighley, the seasonal event is a “positive, uplifting center of gravity to bring this global community together.” Summer Game Fest is a series of events, at the moment of writing, counts with over 16 partners. The event is all digital, it will be live on Twitch, Mixer, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Keighley insist that there will be many Summer Game Fest, suggesting that developers joined forces to make their vision of a better E3.
