Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sold Over Five Million copies In One Week

In a short interview with a Japanese newspaper Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa he has confirmed that globally Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has sold over five million copies in one week. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate it’s the first game to achieve this milestone, so it’s a pretty big deal for Nintendo

Credits to Dr. Sekan Toto for translating the interview:

It was recently confirmed that the game has now shifted more than 2.6 million physical copies in Japan alone (with 1.2 million of those coming from just that launch week), and Nintendo also revealed that it had reached three million sales in the US in just eleven days. The five million global week-one total was to be expected thanks to all of this information, but it’s still nice to have confirmation either way.

Elsewhere, Furukawa also confirms that Switch software sales started to pick up momentum in November of last year (which, again, is to be expected as November saw the release of Pokémon: Let’s Go), and also noted that the Switch is currently offered in 60 countries.

I couldn’t ever count how many hours I spent fighting with my friends in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and I get nostalgic to remember the first time I rented Super Smash Bros. for the N64.

It’s amazing how Super Smash Bros. has achieved something attainable by the likes of The Legend Of Zelda, Mother, Super Mario, Pokémon, Metroid, just to name a few, but it’s reasonable as Super Smash Bros. features great graphics, super fun gameplay and lots of items, it’s also a game that can be played by both young and mature audience.

Super Smash Bros. also features beloved characters from different genres and consoles, characters like Solid Snake, Cloud, Ryu, Mega Man and Sonic fighting against Mario, Samus, Mr. Game Watch it’s a dream come true. From this point onwards I can only expect that Smash Bros will continue to get bigger and keep securing it’s spot as one of the best and more influential games ever released. Super Smash Bros. is truly one for the history books.
