Switch Pro Mentioned in New Nikkei Report – Nintendo Remains Silent

Nintendo’s plans to ship 30 million units in the following months could suggest that the rumored Nintendo Switch Pro could be on its way, potentially ready for a holiday release.

According to a recent Nikkei report, Nintendo will be increasing the production of new Nintendo Switch consoles to 30 million for the current fiscal year.

Earlier reports reveal that the Japanese tech giant shipped 24 million units in the previous fiscal year, which ended in March 2021. Nintendo’s request to manufacturing plants means that the company is anticipating an unprecedented demand for the Switch, something unexpected for a five-year-old console.

Nikkei also reports that Shuntaro Furukawa has forecasted hardware shortages in 2021 due to an increase in demand.

“We have been able to secure the necessary materials for the immediate production of semiconductors for switches,” he said. “However, in Japan and other countries, demand has been very strong since the beginning of the year, and there is a possibility of shortages at some retailers in the future.

“It is difficult to say how we will deal with this, but in some cases we may not be able to prepare enough for orders.”

Nintendo is not commenting on any Switch Pro reports, however, several reports from insiders affirm that the Switch Pro will be announced in the Summer and will launch in Q4 2021 with an MSRP of $399.

Nintendo Switch Pro is expected to feature a new seven-inch screen, OLED technology will significantly reduce battery consumption, feature a higher contrast retaining the 720p resolution at handheld mode.

Samsung is reportedly starting the manufacturing process of the Nintendo Switch Pro OLED panel in June, the panels will be ready to be shipped in July. Nintendo hopes to sell over 2 million units in its launch window.
