Atlus revealed the teaser they released back in December as Persona 5: The Royal. While there was no new information on what the title means, we did get a glimpse of what looks to be a new character added to the story. When asked what she thinks of the Phantom Thieves, she goes on to agree that helping people in need is a wonderful thing, but doesn’t very much approve of the Phantom Thieves and their tactics, questioning if their methods actually make the world a better place. Before the short teaser ended we also received another date of April 24, 2019 which will no doubt give us more details on what The Royal is.
After plenty of controversy regarding Bethesda’s games being exclusive to their online marketplace, Bethesda.net, they appear to have finally folded to their fans liking. In a tweet earlier this week, the veteran AAA publisher announced that their upcoming games Rage 2, Wolfenstein: Youngblood and the VR spin-off Cyberpilot, and Doom Eternal will all be available on Steam along with Bethesda.net. They also noted that they plan to bring Fallout 76 over to Steam later in the year.
While Sony may be dodging E3 this year, that hasn’t stopped the PlayStation brand from revealing new gameplay, announcements and more with their debut episode of their State of Play showcase. While mostly revolving around their upcoming VR line up, viewers got to see plenty of new games headed ot the PS4. Marvel’s Iron Man VR, Observation, Concrete Genie and new Mortal Kombat 11 characters were some of the most notable reveals during the first episode of the program. They also unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming remake, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled which confirmed Crash Nitro Kart additions and PS4 exclusive retro skins for Crash, Coco and Cortex.
While Sony was busy showing off their debut showcase event, Microsoft unveiled their indie showcase the very next day. ID@Xbox Game Pass gave Microsoft fans a look at their upcoming indie exclusive line up featuring Afterparty, Supermarket Shriek, Outer Wilds and Blazing Chrome. With an in-depth look at both Outer Wilds and Afterparty, the indie line up for Microsoft is filling out better than ever. And to add to the occasion, all indie titles shown are expected to release day one on Xbox Game Pass later this year.
Media Molecule officially announced that their ambitious crafting game, Dreams, has an Early Access release date. The game is set to hit what the developers are calling “Creator Early Access” exclusively on the PSN o April 16, 2019 and will give inspiring curators all of the necessary tools to create to their heart’s content within the world of Dreams. The Early Access will sell for $29.99 and will be limited, though, Media Molecule has also stated that the limit is very high. If jumping into Dreams Early Access, you’ll also have access to the full game upon it’s official full launch.
Perhaps one of the most anticipated reveals from this year’s PAX East is Gearbox Software’s upcoming sequel to their loot ‘n’ shooter series, Borderlands 3. We all knew it was coming, but thanks to a flurry of teases last week, Gearbox set an incredibly high level of hype. The Borderlands 3 Developer Trailer gave fans the first look at the upcoming title, with a glimpse at returning favorite characters, as well as the four new Vault Hunters. While there’s no official release date set in place for Borderlands 3, we can expect to hear more about the title on April 3, 2019 which is also the release of the long-rumored Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition remastered with enhanced performance.
Going off a rumor that started at the tail end of 2018 with some sources claiming that the Soulsborne developer From Software are currently working on two unannounced titles. However, the rumors have picked up this week, stating that their next title will be incredibly ambitious introducing a full open world with multiple kingdoms to conquer. Also, some sources say that Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin is attached to the project as a writer. The rumor goes on to suspect we see this title revealed at this year’s E3. While this is all simply speculation, it’s not hard to believe From Software has some big surprises lingering in the shadows.
Microsoft and Nintendo are rumored to break out new consoles this year, with Nintendo potentially releasing two new Switch consoles, and Microsoft planning a disc-less ‘All-Digital’ Xbox One S model, as well as supposedly two new next generation consoles set to be unveiled at this year’s E3 event. With a VR-focused State of Play showcase earlier this week, some Sony fans are growing anxious as to what their console manufacturer of choice is planning for the future of the brand. One Reset Era user feels very confident in a 2019 reveal for the PS5, stating that Sony is “playing their cards close”, but once the silence is broken there will be “lots to show”
Take these details with a big grain of salt as there has yet to be any confirmation Sony is planning a reveal of their next-gen console any time soon, but we all know they can’t ride out the PS4 forever.
