The Sims 5 Could Be Inspired by The Sims Online

AEA’s Third Quarter of Financial Year 2020 earnings call took place recently, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson was asked about the possibility of relaunching an online version of The Sims. He simply replied that Maxis is continuously thinking about a new generation of the life simulation game, features from the online version from 2002 could be present in futures releases, as EA is interested in seeing competition from players and allow them use their imagination and see what they’re able to build inside the Sims universe.

Wilson explains that Maxis’ intention is to stay classic with the simulation game, but the developers are eager to embrace a new social experience and social interactions.

The Sims will be 20 next week. That Maxis team and the team that’s been a part of Maxis over the years continue to deliver unbelievably innovative and creative content for a constantly growing Sims community globally.”

Wilson also goes through the fact that Sims community has expanded throughout the years, The Sims Online allowed even more social experience for players, EA is also taking into account the competition nature of The Sims and how it allows players “compare and contrast”. Wilson explain that this competition is not like competing in a sport, but it’s competing through creativity.

“As Maxis continues to think about The Sims for a new generation – cross-platforms and a cloud of a neighborhood world, you should imagine while we will always stay true to our inspiration, escape, creation, self-improvement, motivations – that this notion of social interactions and competition like the kind of things that were actually present in The Sims Online many many years ago – that they will start to become a part of The Sims experience in the years to come.

We are very excited. This is a game that really doesn’t have any competition in its category for delivering and fulfilling these motivations for players and we think of the tremendous growth opportunities for us for many many years to come.”
