The Wayward Realms, An Upcoming Ambitious RPG

If you are the kind of gamer that likes an open world that you can sink hundreds of hours into, then developers Ted Peterson and Julian LeFay are working on something right up your alley. The pair had previously worked on Elder Scrolls Daggerfall and Arena in the past, and now, they are developing a new RPG with OnceLost Games.

This new RPG, which is entitled The Wayward Realms, is being designed to offer an immersive experience like no other RPG before it. This includes an ever-expanding story that offers deep consequences and a large number of player choices. All of this in an open world that is “way bigger than most other games you can think of.”

The game bills itself as offering “real role-playing,” with the player traversing this world using a fully customizable character class. Along the way the player will find themselves in sprawling cities, traversing large and diverse mountains, and fighting through dangerous marshlands. Players are encouraged to “think outside of the box” when it comes to completing tasks as there will always be more than one solution.

According to the game’s official website:

The Wayward Realms is set on a group of over one hundred realistically scaled islands, known collectively as the Archipelago, where scores of factions vie for influence and power. Kingdoms strive to maintain their dominance, upstarts seek to earn a place at the top, and dynasties set generational plots into motion. Should the player earn a position of prominence, they may change the course of history. However, they must first prove their worth battling rivals, mercenaries, monsters, spirits, and demons. On their quest for fame and fortune, players will venture through strange lands, delve into foreboding dungeons, and traverse kingdoms full of humans, elves, orcs, dwarves, and a few other unusual races.

For fans of deep lore, the game looks have that covered as well. The studio stated, “On the surface, things may have that familiar, medieval fantasy look, but dig a bit deeper, and there’s a lot to learn.” Among these things are the various cultures that inhabit the Archipelago. The game sounds extremely ambitious, but if they are able to pull it off it also sounds extremely fun.
