The Wonderful 101: Remastered’s Kickstarter Finishes at $2.2 Million

Platinum Games launched a Kickstarter campaign for The Wonderful 101: Remastered, it was a complete success users backed the project’s initial goal in less than four hours and has now officially ended managing to receive $2.2 million from backers.

Platinum Games has released an interview with Hideki Kamiya, The Wonderful 101: Remastered’s Director.

Platinum Games has stated that the main goal of the developer wasn’t to found the game, but to create and measure the excitement for the game. In an interview with Gematsu Platinum Games’ Atsushi Inaba has admitted that Platinum Games didn’t need the money to develop the port of The Wonderful 101.

Well the actual reason we decided to do a Kickstarter campaign was not for funding at all, it was more about gauging interest in The Wonderful 101. This is a game we’ve always wanted to revisit at some point in time, so we thought it would be a good opportunity to bring the fans together—to unite them—and gauge interest. And in essence, to release the game. So it wasn’t really about the amount of funding at all, it was about self-publishing, bringing fans together, and revisiting The Wonderful 101.

Of course, Atsushi Inaba revealed how will Platinum Games will use the funds of the campaign for the goal they promised.

First off, the money is going towards the production of all the goods—I don’t know if you’ve seen all the tiers and their rewards, but those cost money to produce. The rest of the money is going towards the additional content that will be added to the game. All that costs money, and it takes time and work to port the game to the additional platforms. I want to clarify that we didn’t do the campaign to ‘get money’ or anything like that—that wasn’t the point of it. The main goal was to bring the fans together, gauge interest, and find a good way to revisit and release the game.

In The Wonderful 101, players control a group of secret heroes plucked from their normal lives to save the world in a time of emergency. Will Wedgewood is a teacher at Blossom City Elementary School, but to some he is known as Wonder-Red, young secret combat service prodigy and soon-to-be leader of The Wonderful 100. Joining him in this elite group is Eliot Hooker, detective with the Los Angeles Police Department in his everyday life, and the man behind the mask of Wonder-Blue.
