Tokyo Game Show 2021 Announced

CESA, Nikkei, and Dentsu announced today Tokyo Game Show 2021 as an online-only event due to COVID-19. The event will be hosted from September 30 to October 3.

Tokyo Game Show 2021 has a new themed ” “Soredemo, bokura ni wa, game ga aru” meaning We’ll always have games.

CESA also was thrilled to remember the 25th year of the event, even if the event will be online, the organizers are trying to “create a place where all the people who grew up with the game can gather together regardless of their position or age.”

This year, we will recreate the new Tokyo Game Show. With such enthusiasm, I would like to create a lively future from here with everyone who likes games. Says CESA at the official announcement of the Tokyo Game Show.

Tokyo Game Show will be hosted with streams on YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, Facebook,  and other services globally in Japanese (with simultaneous English interpretation).

The event will also have the collaboration with the online stores of various game platforms, it’s expected that fans on PlayStation,  Xbox, Nintendo, and PC will be able to play new game demos online for free. It’s also confirmed that the event will have a day just for online business-to-business meetings on September 29.

A small team of influencers and press are invited due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event will still take place at the Makuhari Messe venue in Chiba. Unlike TGS 2020, this year the press will have the benefit of watching exhibition booths, press conferences and trying some of the demos.

Tokyo Game Show is one of the largest gaming events in the world, the 2018 edition drew 298,690, attendees over the course of four days.

The ESA has also confirmed e3 2021 as a three-day digital event, GDC has also been reivented as a digital event, Geoff Keighley is expected to come back in the summer with his Game Fest, while companies like EA, Nintendo and PlayStation are expected to each host their separate events where they take all the spotlights.
