Tokyo Game Show Schedule Announced

One of the last major gaming conferences of the year, the Tokyo Game Show, will be held digitally this year similar to other events. Unlike other events, Tokyo recently held the Olympics which were delayed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the city was in a state of emergency during the Olympics it is understandable that travel to and from the city would be pretty limited going into next year.

That being said, like most years, for people that are not in Japan the conference will be watchable online starting on September 30th when a 50-minute live stream for Xbox will be held for its opening day. This event promises “some exclusive news and content to share.”

October 1, the following day, will see Square Enix hold a 50-minute event as well. This event is promising “the latest news about our upcoming titles”. There are a few games that might be part of this including the upcoming Platinum games Babylon’s Fall, but it has been stated that most likely the upcoming Dragon Quest XII and Final Fantasy XVI would not be appearing here.

Several other companies will be present as well including Capcom, Bandai Namco, 505 Games, Tencent, and Konami with a new Yu-Gi-Oh! title. Most of these companies will most likely be going over their already announced titles that are either near release or have just been released.

Unlike Gamescom or E3, TGS is not known for being a platform for major worldwide announcements. More often than not it deals with games getting major announcements for the Japanese market, though it is always fun to watch. That being said, it has been known for the reveal of Yakuza titles, or JRPG’s so anything could be possible. Tencent has also been moving into the Japanese market so there is the possibility of them announcing acquisitions.

Overall the event will last from September 30 to October 3 and can be watched online on Twitch, YouTube, and more.
