Summer Game Fest has just announced Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1-2 Remaster, the game is a complete remake of the first two games in the franchise, the game will launch on September 4, 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC Via Epic Games Store.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 – 2 Remaster will feature the classic skaters, Bucky Lasek, Elissa Steamer, Kareem Campbell, Steve Caballero, Chad Muska, Bob Burnquist and Andrew Reynolds. Most of the original soundtrack will also be present in the remasters.
Summer Game Fest first livestream hosted by Geoff Keighley had two special guest, Tony Hawk and Vicarious Visions’ executive Jen Oneal. Tony Hawks explains that the feels of the remaster was the most important thing to bring the franchise back, he has always been very involved with the games.
Oneal talked about how Vicarious Visions has always been involved with the franchise, before, developing handheld version for Nintendo, and now the studio was tasked by Activision to create a Remaster of the first two games. She reveals that the priority was to make the new game feel as good as the old ones did. For that approach, original soundtrack, maps and even Neversoft developers were brought back.
We started with the Neversoft engine looking at the codebase for the handling brought that over, also looked at the level layout and bringing over the geometry as a starting point and you upgrade everything from there, from the animation to the high res graphics.
Oneal also confirmed Gamespot that the game won’t have microtransactions, all the content will be unlockable through gameplay.
“Everything that you see at launch is going to be unlocked with gameplay. We’re not planning on having monetization at launch,” Oneal said, adding that Vicarious put a focus on making sure players are getting a “complete package.” If there is demand for additional content, Vicarious Visions might consider releasing more stuff to buy with real money down the road.
