According to reports from Venturebeat, Nintendo, facing the imminent cancellation of GDC 2020 and E3 2020, has decided to host two Nintendo Direct live streams in March 2020, the first Direct will be a Nindies spring showcase, and like the name implies, the event will be focused around upcoming indie games to arrive Nintendo Switch, Nindies Spring Showcase will take place on March 18 and will be transmitted via YouTube.
The bigger announcements will take place shortly after in a dedicated Nintendo Direct on March 26, on that day, Nintendo will reveal information from their IPs and major third-party games for the Switch. Venturebeat reports that this Direct won’t focus on just one or two games, as it will take an in depth look at the upcoming lineup of first-party games for the Nintendo Switch. It is worth mentioning that Nintendo has not officially announced anything related an upcoming Direct, the outlet advises that the dates might change due to Nintendo’s “unpredictability”.
The publisher hasn’t announced the Direct yet, so things could change. And yes, this is absolutely me hedging. But Nintendo is deep into the process of putting the event together based on what I’ve heard. It has decided many of the third-party games it will include in the event. So it’s definitely happening — and almost certainly before the end of March.
, the author of Venturebeat‘s report indicates that it’s due Nintendo’s need to let investors know what are the plans of the company before the end of the current fiscal year.
Finally, Nintendo needs to communicate its lineup — and not even to its fans. The publisher is coming up on the end of its fiscal year on March 31. And investors will want to know how Nintendo plans to keep generating revenue. It could do that with a conference call with analysts and its shareholders. But it’s more likely that Nintendo would actually present its lineup to fans first at this point.
