Ubisoft Massive Getting Leadership Change

The Ubisoft Forward E3 event ended, as they often do, with a big reveal of their latest big project. This year that game was the Avatar tie-in game, fully named Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Even before this game has been released, which is slated for 2022, it has had a positive effect. During a meeting in which Avatar was showcased for Disney, apparently, they like it so much they allowed the same team, Ubisoft Massive, to get the right to a Star Wars game as well. While no one person can be given full credit for these events, a key player was David Polfeldt.

Now, after 17 years with the company, the managing director for the studio David Polfeldt will be leaving the company. He announced this through an official press release through the companies website. First joining the company in 2005, he recalled its small-time roots when his official job description was ‘Mister Fixit’. He would eventually be promoted to Managing Director in 2009.

He went on to describe the events of the last few years:

“When we signed Star Wars, and finally completed our beautiful building Eden in 2020, I felt an overwhelming sense of completion, as if I had achieved everything I once dreamt of.

Standing on the solid foundation of The Division, Avatar, Snowdrop, and Ubisoft Connect, the studio is in fantastic shape, and I am exceptionally grateful for what we have accomplished together. Before I embark on a new adventure in Ubisoft, I will try something else which is new and exciting to me: a long break! Wish me luck, and see you in 2022.”

While he intended to take a long break, this is not the end of his time with Ubisoft. He stated his plans were to eventually return to the company and explore new roles for himself within the company. After all the company has done recently, the break is well deserved.
