Ubisoft has confirmed that first-party games will be branded as “Ubisoft Original“. The new brand was revealed in a new poster for Tom Clancy’s The Division: Heartland.
“Moving forward ‘The Ubisoft Original’ mention is attached to all of Ubisoft’s games created in-house by our talented developers,” a Ubisoft spokesperson told Eurogamer.
Ubisoft revealed Heartland last week, a free-to-play, “standalone experience” created by Red Storm Entertainment. The game is headed to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC in 2021 or 2022. The new Ubisoft Original brand can be spotted in the image below.
Ubisoft also announced plans to bring the franchise to mobile devices, but it didn’t share any more details.
Ubisoft is also launching a novel that will tell the story after the events of The Division 2 and howhow the Outbreak affects different regions of the United States as agents fight to secure supply routes.” A film based on The Division is also in the works for quite some time, the movie was initially announced in 2016 starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain.
The French company is also helping indie developers to get more audiences for their games, Carto is one of the games showcased on the Indie Corner of Ubisoft Connect. The game tells the story of Carto after being separated from her Granny during a storm. She must her world-altering powers on her journey back to her family.
Other publishers have begun using a similar brand for their first-party games, Electronic Arts and its EA Originals is one of those. Bigger companies like Xbox and PlayStation use the Xbox Game Studios and PlayStation Studios to refer to its first-party developers and IPs.
Ubisoft Original could confirm the company’s intention to publish more indie titles in the future.
